Pick your distance
Bison Ultra is an ITRA-certified trail race through coffee estates and shola forest, with some sections of village roads. Pick the distance and elevation that fits your training and earn your #ultramalaivasi tag.
60K • Flagship Ultra
For experienced trail runners. Significant elevation and a long time on feet.
Starts at 6 AM, climbs through coffee estates and ridges, with long runnable descents in the second half. Pacing discipline is critical at this distance.
- Recommended: a recent 45–60K trail finish or strong road marathon background.
- Aid every ~8–10K with water, salts, basics; carry 1L minimum and weather shell.
- Ideal prep: hill repeats + back-to-back long runs to mimic estate gradients.
45K • Classic Mountain Loop
A solid ultra distance—a mix of climbs, flat estate sections, and descents.
A good step up for road marathoners moving to trail. Run by effort, not pace, and conserve energy for the climbs in the back half.
- Recommended: sub-5:15 road marathon or prior 30–40K trail.
- Carry 750ml+, salts, and a light layer; mid-race sun can be humid.
- Focus on downhill form and poles (optional) for sustained control.
36K • Technical Estate Roller
A step beyond the half marathon on technical trail terrain.
Includes switchbacks, short steep sections, and runnable stretches through coffee and shola. Start controlled to manage the descents well.
- Recommended: recent half marathon (road or trail) and hill work.
- Carry 500–750ml plus salts; expect mixed shade and open sun.
- Practice hiking cadence—efficient power hikes save the quads.
18K • Intro to #ultramalaivasi
A good entry point into trail running with manageable elevation and strong course support.
Suited for first-time trail runners and supporters joining the race morning. Well-marked with aid spaced for new runners.
- Recommended: comfortable 10–12K road fitness.
- Carry a handheld or small vest; aid spacing supports new runners.
- Perfect as a family or crew morning before cheering later finishers.
